Truck vs. Truck Accidents

Collisions never end on a positive note. When large trucks are involved in accidents, particularly when those accidents involve other large trucks, the results can be catastrophic. In Los Angeles, where heavy traffic on roads and highways is as common an occurrence as the sunrise and sunset, trucks can create sizeable destruction if they are not properly driven and maintained.

Trucks, due to their length, have large blind spots, and do not always take the necessary precautions to see other motorists while on the road. While their large size means that trucks should be clearly visible to other truck drivers, this is not always the case. Truck drivers may assume that other drivers are looking out for them on the road, and may assume that conditions are safe when in fact they are not.

Trucks vary greatly in size. The larger the truck, the more damage it can cause to other drivers during an accident. Drivers of smaller, non-commercial trucks might often be lumped together with large commercial trucks as nuisances of the road, but smaller truck drivers, like small passenger cars, are placed at the same disadvantage when pitted against large trucks.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, "multiple-trailer trucks have more handling problems than single-trailer trucks. In general, the additional connection points contribute to greater instability, which can lead to jackknifing, overturning, and lane encroachments." Large trucks are difficult to maneuver around tight turns and steep hills, and pose a risk to all motorists on the road, including other trucks. The Institute also cites a study that determined trucks pulling more than one trailer were "two to three times as likely as other [trucks] to be in crashes." The larger the vehicle, the greater the likelihood of an accident occurring.

In California, large commercial trucks dwarf all other motorists, other trucks sometimes included.
